Di colore verde la Big Bench di Terrinca, in località Passo Croce, nel comune di Stazzema, si affaccia su uno dei panorami più belli della Toscana. Alle pendici del monte Corchia, versante terrinchese, si può osservare un territorio e un paesaggio meraviglioso, dove l’uomo e la natura si contrastano a vicenda in uno scenario unico. Nelle giornate più limpide si possono intravedere sullo sfondo diverse isole, tra cui la Gorgona, la Capraia e la Corsica.
Il Passo Croce (1.150 metri s.l.m.) prende nome da una croce marmorea apposta nel XVIII secolo a memoria di due sfortunati giovani terrinchesi che persero la vita in quelle zone durante un inverno particolarmente rigido.
La zona si contraddistingue per i numerosi siti di elevato valore naturalistico e paesaggistico, segnalati negli ultimi decenni anche per la presenza di molte incisioni rupestri.
All’arrivo lungo la strada carrozzabile vi accoglie una particolare struttura sacra, che nel linguaggio locale viene definita “Marginetta”. Nel territorio di Terrinca se ne trovavano più di settanta, alcune di costruzione molto antica, altre più recenti come quella del Passo Croce. Si presentano come piccole cappelline con un bassorilievo in marmo raffigurante immagini sacre. La loro funzione era anche di fornire un piccolo riparo alla popolazione durante le transumanze stagionali.
La Big Bench di Terrinca si affaccia lungo i resti della famosa Linea Gotica, che per ben sette mesi, tra il settembre del 1944 e l’aprile del 1945, rappresentò il fronte militare tra le truppe dell’Asse e quelle Alleate.
Da non perdere una sosta nell’antico borgo di Terrinca che dista solo pochi Km. con i caratteristici vicoli, monumenti, chiese, oratori e antiche fonti, dove vi aspettano prodotti e cucina del territorio.
I panchinisti itineranti possono richiedere il passaporto, il timbro o alcuni gadget della Big Bench recandosi presso il Circolo Arci “Le Tanacce” situato nel vicino paese di Terrinca distante solo pochi minuti di macchina da qui.

The green Big Bench of Terrinca, situated in the resort Passo Croce, in the municipal district of Stazzema, overlooks on one of the most beautiful views of Tuscany.
On the slopes of the Corchia Mountain, on the Terrinca side, you can watch a wonderful landscape and area, where man and nature clash each other in an unique scenary.
During the clearest days you can see some different islands in the back including the Gorgona, Capraia and Corsica.
The Passo Croce (1150 metres) takes its name from a marble cross which was added in the XVIII century in memory of two unlucky young people from Terrinca who lost their lives in those areas during a very cold winter.
The area stands out for the numerous sites of the high naturalistic and landscape value reported in the last decades also for the presence of many rock engravings.
When you arrive along the carriageable street, a particular sacred structure welcome you, that in the local language is defined as “Marginetta”.
In the territory of Terrinca you can find more than 70 “Marginette”, some of them have an ancient building, some other more recent like that of Passo della Croce. They are like small chapels with a marble bas-relief which portayed sacred images. Their function was also to provide a little shelter to the population during the seasonal transhumances.
The Big Bench of Terrinca faces along the remains of the Gothic line, that for seven months between September 1944 and April 1945, represented the military front between the Axis and Allied troops.
Don’t miss a stop in the ancient village of Terrinca which is only a few Km away, with its typical alleys, monuments, churches,oratories and ancient fountains where a lot of local food products are waiting for you.
The itinerant benchers can ask for the passport, the stamp or gadgets of The Big Bench going to Circolo Arci “Le Tanacce”, located in the nearby village og Terrinca which is only a few minutes away by the car (to reach it: go along the Via Versiliana Carducci (via Fonda) at the crossroads with the Provinciale street of Arni, turn on your left and after about one km you reach the cross roads for the village that at this point is only a few hundreds of metres away. After parking the car you walk into the village reaching the square XXV Aprile where you find the Circle “Le Tanacce”.
